Data Licenses
Some of the data shown on this site — and republished through our public API and feeds — is derived from third-party open databases. This page lists those sources, the licenses they carry, and what that means if you reuse data you obtained from us.
VNDB: The Visual Novel Database
Parts of our catalog's tag and metadata vocabulary (for example the theme and content tags used for browsing and filtering) are derived from VNDB, whose database is made available under the Open Database License (ODbL) v1.0 with individual contents under the Database Contents License (DbCL) v1.0 (see VNDB's data license page).
Contains information from VNDB (https://vndb.org), which is made available under the Open Database License (ODbL) v1.0.
Scope
- Covered: the VNDB-derived portions of our tag/metadata vocabulary and the per-title
tag assignments built from them (the
themeTagsfields in our public feeds and any tag fields in API responses). - Not covered: everything else in the catalog — product listings, prices, descriptions, images, curation, and editorial content — is our own or our partners' and is not licensed under ODbL. All rights reserved unless stated otherwise.
Reusing the tag data
If you extract or redistribute the VNDB-derived tag data you obtained from us, the ODbL applies
to you too: keep the attribution notice above intact, and license any derivative database of
that data under the ODbL. The VNDB-derived tag assignments we publish are available in
machine-readable form through our public
catalog feeds (for example /feed/products.json), which
satisfies the ODbL's availability requirement for the derivative data we publicly use. Our JSON
API and feed responses carry a machine-readable license stanza with the same notice.
