I got this on sale, and I’m glad I didn’t pay full price.
I was a fan of the first two parts of the Sunrider story, both the characters and the game mechanics. For this review, I’ve decided to further subdivide my rating into two categories: Gameplay and Story
For the gameplay category, I give this a 4/5. It has various improvements over the original, such as including Intel as a resource in addition to credits, so that you don’t have to feel like you’re giving up upgrades in exchange for munitions like you had to do in Mask of Arcadius. Additionally, the upgrades to the Vanguard Cannon and Quantum Torpedo are freaking awesome.
Now for story, I give it a 0/5, for one simple reason. When it seemed like the battle had been won, they KILLED MY FAVORITE WAIFU. This is a most grievous, unforgivable sin for any sort of waifu collection game, especially when there’s absolutely no way to prevent it.
I wanted to give Love in Space an attempt, as I admired their boldness for trying to make anime games out of San Diego of all places. However, due to what they did to my waifu in this game, I will not be purchasing any other Love in Space products… not even at 80% discount. They seemed to severely underestimate how much weebs love their waifus in writing this story.
