Nekofuku Shrine is a small shrine located in a corner of Akihabara. It is dedicated to 2 cats that are said to bring in good fortune and expel any misfortune.
The legend goes that 2 cats came to help the revival of the town after a huge fire burnt it down a long time ago. Although the ancient and honorable shrine has stood in a quiet side street of Akihabara for hundreds of years, its surroundings have developed, leaving it with no worshippers for many years. One day, a very unfortunate young man came to visit the old shrine. The 2 cat-eared girls in the appearance of shrine maidens, could not stand by and not greet their first worshipper for many years. Especially one riddled with such misfortune. The 2 cat-eared girls start living with the young man to rid him of his misfortune, but… It turns out that this is the start of a somewhat eventful and sexual cohabitation between the young man and the 2 cat-eared shrine maidens! |

This is Qureate’s first game, so don’t expect everything to be perfect. However, the price is low, and the two nekos are incredibly adorable… so it’s definitely worth it if you’re looking for a short, enjoyable game with a pair of neko waifus.
The mistakes I found to be rather minor… a spelling error here and there, which was more a problem with the translators than it was with the game designers. The three endings felt somewhat brief… no real after story, just “let’s be together forever, and let’s have sex now.”
That said… I’m very glad that there was a harem ending. Not many games these days have a harem route, and usually when they do, it’s either the only option, or only available in a fan disc. However, the threesome scene used the exact same images for Ayame’s turn as it did for Kaede’s… so it looked like Kaede came when Ayame did and vice versa. Could have been a bit better in that regard, though I imagine their budget was limited since this was, after all, the first game of a relatively unknown company.
In less than two years since this game was released, Qureate has released three more H-games and two all-ages games, which are worth checking out if you liked this one as I did!

This was the first VN i played that uses the Emote animation engine. And man, I’m gonna admit, I didn’t think it would look THIS good. The character animation in this game is really smooth and beautiful, the girls look super cute, and just looking at the animation transitions between their different facial expressions and poses… it just looks completely adorable. They’ve got lip syncing as well, and it’s really well done. I’ve seen what bad lip syncing in VNs looks like, and this isn’t it. Also, I gotta say the background art is beautiful, and the UI is nice as well, and has polish to it.
So with that all said, why is this a 3 star review? Well it’s because that’s about where my praise ends.
First I’ll just quickly mention the translation, which is kind of a joke. Luckily sometimes the broken English was funny, but it got annoying as well, a few times being a pain to interpret. There were grammar issues, spelling mistakes, and a bunch of typos, making it look like this wasn’t proof read. I’ll be fair though, and say there were sentences that were completely fine too.
Then the writing. It started off decent. Nothing special and nothing bad, just enjoyable slice of life, with no particular originality, which is completely fine for a soothing cat girl story like this. But then i started feeling like the character’s emotions and their overall progression got too forced and rushed. These characters just met for the first time too, at the beginning of the story. But then I realized why it felt kinda rushed all of sudden, because suddenly the credits rolled. Like, i know this is 10 bucks, but that was really short. I’ve only played VNs at twice or thrice the price, but they easily had well over ten times the content. The game has two arcs and three endings, but the arcs are just going on a date with one of the girls for one day, and then an end scene.
Speaking of end scenes, this really is the first VN I’ve played where they have sex once, and then the game is over. I was also a bit let down that the sex scenes weren’t animated, since the rest of the game was. But I figured it might be an engine limitation for Emote and brushed it off. But then later I played Nekopara, and Nekopara uses the Emote animations for sex scenes, so… nevermind then .
The voice acting was alright, but Ayame’s VA has e certain intonation that she uses in every sentence, that get’s old very fast. Kaede’s VA has a soothing and gentle vibe to her. Absolutely no complaints on her. Now mind you, these are the only voice actors in the game. For everyone else it’s silent. Also there are no other character models/sprites. Ayame and Kaede are the only characters you’ll ever see. Except that the main character is partially shown in some still images.
Music was fine, but low in variety, but there wasn’t enough time for it to get repetitive. An ironic blessing.
So in conclusion the game wasn’t all bad. If you just want cute shrine maiden cat girls, then go get this, but get it at a discount, because you’re not getting much for your buck. But hey, maybe a short chill game is just what you are looking for. Also, try your best to just have fun with those translations.
